Last updated: May 17, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Spide handles personal data when you use the Spide mobile app, website, and related services.

Spide is a financial wellbeing app. It helps people reflect on spending, set goals, and make progress through small actions. Spide is not a bank, lender, broker, investment adviser, credit bureau, or provider of personalized financial advice.

Information we collect

We collect information needed to provide, secure, maintain, and improve Spide.

Account information:

  • name, display name, username, profile photo, and email address;
  • login identifiers from supported sign-in providers such as Google or Apple;
  • app settings, language, currency, privacy preferences, and subscription state.

Financial app information:

  • goals, target amounts, contribution settings, checkup history, and goal progress;
  • bank connection status and bank account metadata when you choose to connect a bank;
  • account balances, transaction dates, transaction descriptions, merchants, categories, amounts, currencies, and related transaction details imported through a supported bank connectivity provider;
  • purchase or subscription evidence needed to confirm paid access.

Social and user-generated content:

  • public or follower-visible profile details you choose to create;

  • friend or follow requests and social relationship status.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • create and secure your account;
  • provide goals, checkups, bank connection, subscription, and social features;
  • sync accounts and transactions when you connect a supported bank;
  • show your chosen profile, goal posts, reactions, comments, and progress to the audience you select;
  • process and verify app-store purchases and subscriptions;
  • prevent misuse, debug errors, monitor service health, and improve app reliability;
  • answer support, privacy, security, or legal requests;
  • meet legal, tax, accounting, security, and platform-policy obligations.

Spide does not sell personal data. Spide does not use bank transaction data to advertise third-party products to you.

Bank connections

Bank connection is optional. If you choose to connect a bank, Spide uses a regulated bank connectivity provider to let you authorize access. Spide does not ask for or store your bank login password.

Bank data can include account metadata, balances, and transaction history. Spide uses this information to power checkups, goal reflection, progress views, and related product features. You can disconnect a bank connection in the app where supported, and you can contact us for deletion requests.

Social sharing

Spide social features are designed around intentional sharing. Friends and followers do not automatically see your bank data, account balances, or raw spending history.

When you publish social content, the content and related profile information may be visible to the audience selected in the app, such as followers. Do not publish personal, sensitive, or financial details that you do not want others to see.

Service providers

We use service providers to operate Spide, including:

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, app hosting, data storage, analytics, diagnostics, crash reporting, Remote Config, and backend infrastructure;
  • Google Play and Apple App Store for app distribution, billing, subscription verification, and app review;
  • supported bank connectivity providers such as Powens for user-authorized bank connection and account-data access;
  • email, support, security, and operational tools when needed to run the service.

These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to Spide, comply with law, or protect their systems.

Legal bases

Where GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on these legal bases:

  • contract, to provide the app and requested features;
  • consent, for optional bank connection, selected social sharing, and optional permissions;
  • legitimate interests, to secure, maintain, debug, and improve Spide;
  • legal obligation, where law or platform rules require retention, reporting, or compliance.

Data sharing

We may share information:

  • with service providers that help operate Spide;
  • with other users when you intentionally publish social content or profile information;
  • with app stores and payment processors to process purchases and subscriptions;
  • with authorities, regulators, courts, or legal advisers where required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, and security;
  • in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or reorganization, subject to appropriate protections.

Retention

We keep information for as long as needed to provide Spide, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and maintain security. Retention periods depend on the type of data and the reason it is kept.

You may request deletion of your account data. Some information may remain for limited periods in backups, logs, fraud-prevention records, accounting records, or legal compliance records.

Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to the processing of personal data. You can also withdraw consent where processing depends on consent.

You can manage certain settings inside the app, including profile privacy, social sharing, and bank connection options where available. To make a privacy request, contact privacy@spide.org.

Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal data, including authenticated access, encrypted transport, platform security controls, and restricted backend access. No system is perfectly secure, so users should also protect their devices, accounts, and sign-in credentials.

Children

Spide is not intended for children. The Play Store release is intended for adults aged 18 and older. If we learn that we collected personal data from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it.

International transfers

Spide and its service providers may process data in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as the product, law, or platform requirements change. We will update the "Last updated" date when we make material changes.
